Re: [OpenTechSchool-Brussels] Learning Programming with Python - Workshop

From: Hugo H.

I had a short look at the Python workshops suggested on OTS, and I find that most of them either use advanced Python capabilities or require advanced concepts to be understood :

• Flask uses decorators, which is not an obvious concept and there is a risk that beginners see it as "magic"
• BioPython, Data processing and Facebook search are liked to specific topics or technologies, in which everyone is not interested.
• Django requires a lot of prior knowledge (OOP, relational databases, regex, MVC, ...)

Therefore, I would like to create a new workshop, aimed at absolute beginners, and aiming at creating a small web search engine in Python.

What is your opinion about these workshop materials and this suggestion ?

Herrrrr... Not sure I'd lead host any workshop that are currently suggested! (Surely the future Processing workshop, but not sure about those two)
We'll find a nice responsible coach (you Friedger?:p) and it'll be good.

It's a bit a mess in terminology because there are organiser both on the meet up point of view, and OTS.
For now, let's say that a meetup organiser has to validate the events on meetup, but don't have to actually be present or organise them.
We'll see how it goes.

Beside, there is a lot of material, but it's quite a mess. At some point (the sooner the better) we'll have the coach to meet, and to decide on good template for learning materials.

there is already quite a lot available at OTS to get a python workshop going:

I have suggested a workshop on meetup. Please sign up if you are interested as learner or coach.

I take it that Roman is going to lead-host the workshop :-)
