Agenda Topic #1: OpenStack Summit Review (30 mins)

The OpenStack Summit (http://www.openstack.org/summit/portland-2013/) in Portland mid-April was a smashing success which broke all attendance records. Almost 3000 people showed up, twice the number from the previous Summit in San Diego.

Some of the tracks this year included:

Business Value Case Studies Community Building Ecosystem Getting Started Legal Operations Summit Project Updates With that many parallel tracks and large number of attendees, it's difficult to get an overall sense of key takeaways. A pretty large OpenStack contingent of folks from the Boston area were present at the Summit. These included OpenStack developers, users, operators, and product people from diverse companies including Dell, SUSE, Inktank, IBM, HP, CloudTP, Quanta Resarch, RedHat and I'm sure many others. Many of these folks are also members of this Boston OpenStack Meetup Group.

This month let's get together to hear all the inside details of what people really thought about a presentation or idea. Let's use this time to ask the really tough questions and get the answers. Let's reflect on where OpenStack is and where it is going. Let's talk about what people heard in the hallways and from informal conversations. Let's get the larger takeaways. We're aiming to make this interactive and for people to talk about interesting sessions and things they've learned about. So if you have been to the OpenStack Summit, we would love to have you in this meetup session to hear your views.

Agenda Topic #2: OpenStack Tempest Overview (30 mins)

Tempest is an Openstack test suite which runs against all the OpenStack service endpoints. It makes sure that all the OpenStack components work together properly and that no APIs are changed. Tempest is a "gate" for all commits to OpenStack repositories and will prevent merges if tests fail. David Kranz (https://launchpad.net/%7Edavid-kranz) has been a long-time active contributor to the OpenStack Tempest project. He will share his thoughts on Tempest and OpenStack QA in general.

Speaker: David Kranz, Quanta Research

David Kranz works on OpenStack and special-purpose clouds at Quanta Research. He is a Core reviewer and active participant in the OpenStack QA project (Tempest). In a previous life David served as the CTO and VP of Engineering of Curl Corporation, a pioneer of platforms to support the development and deployment of Rich Internet Applications. David co-founded Curl in 1998.Prior to that, David was a Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science where his research interests included programming languages, compilers, computer architecture, and parallel and distributed computing. David received his BA in Mathematics and Physics from Swarthmore College and his PhD in Computer Science from Yale University.

Abstract

Join us to learn how to quickly and easily build customized workloads for deployment to your OpenStack infrastructure, helping address specific enterprise requirements within your private cloud. We will provide a high-level overview before diving into a technical details of available online and offline tools.
