HA for OpenStack: Connecting the dots
Details
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
We got word from the Microsoft NERD center that they are shutting down the facility tomorrow due to the developing snow storm in our area. We are rescheduling tomorrow's OpenStack presentations to another suitable date. It's unfortunate we cannot meet for this meetup but its more important to stay safe and warm.
Take care and be safe.
Welcome to 2014! We are kicking off the new year with Rackspace as our January sponsor.
The primary requirements for OpenStack based clouds (public, private or hybrid) is that they must be massively scalable and highly available. There are a number of interrelated concepts which make the understanding and implementation of HA complex. The potential for not implementing HA correctly could be disastrous.
We will be discussing the interrelated concepts as a basis for implementing HA. The session will have several demos and walk through some examples of HA for MySQL, Rabbit MQ and the OpenStack APIs primarily using Keepalive, VRRP and HAProxy which will reinforce the concepts and show how to connect the dots. Although, we will use OpenStack as an example, the concepts will be applicable on a more general basis.
Our session will be led by Raghavan "Rags" Srinivas (@ragss) works as a OpenStack advocate and solutions architect at Rackspace where he finds himself constantly challenged from low level networking to high level application issues. His general focus area is in distributed systems, with a specialization in Cloud Computing and Big Data. He worked on Hadoop, HBase and NoSQL during its early stages. Rags brings over 20 years of hands-on software development and over 10 years of architecture and technology evangelism experience. He has evangelized and influenced the architecture of a number of technology areas. He is also a repeat JavaOne rock star speaker award winner. Rags holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the Center of Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Reminders:
A lite dinner and soft drinks will be provided ~ 6:30pm courtesy of Rackspace, and we will kick off the sessions ~ 7:00pm.
