Oct Meetup - Serving Big Data Applications with an OpenStack environment

Details

Double header sessions coming in Oct. Mark your calendars! We have Symantec sponsoring and Tesora lined up to present as well! Full session details are posted below. This will be a GOOD one!

Serving Big Data Applications with an OpenStack environment

Data is core to developers' applications, and that data is getting bigger all of the time. To satisfy this need, Symantec is building and delivering Big Data platform services to its internal product teams as part of its OpenStack ecosystem - secure, multi-tenant, and integrated with Keystone.

These services include batch processing via Hadoop, stream processing using Storm and Kafka, and MagnetoDB for production facing, high throughput data storage and retrieval. This session will cover our experiences delivering Big Data as a service, both the challenges and rewards.

Speaker Bio: Keith Newstadt is the PaaS architect in Symantec's Cloud Platform Engineering group, building a very large OpenStack private cloud that will host Symantec's many public cloud products and services.

Session 2: A lot has been happening in Trove, the database as a service on OpenStack over the past several months. In addition to new features and new capabilities, Trove will be supporting many new and interesting features in Juno. We’ll provide an update on all new developments and provide a preview of the direction for Kilo.

Speaker Bio: Amrith Kumar is the Founder, CTO and a Board Member of Tesora. He brings more than two decades of experience delivering industry-leading products for companies specializing in enterprise storage applications, fault tolerant high performance systems and massively parallel databases to Tesora. Earlier, he served as vice president of technology and product management at Dataupia, maker of the Satori Data Warehousing platform, and Sepaton’s director and general manager, where he was responsible for the development of the core virtual tape library product. Amrith is also on the Core team of the Trove database as a service project.

Reminders:

A light dinner and soft drinks will be provided ~ 6:30pm courtesy of Symantec, and we will kick off the speaking sessions ~ 7:00pm.

If you are interested in giving a Lightening Talk shoot us a note with a topic or just come to the session ready to speak!
