Double Header Meetup! OpenStack and VMWare Integration Best Practices

Details
Our Feb. OpenStack Meetup has two GREAT topics! Mirantis is our co-sponsor and they will talking about integrating OpenStack with VMware, plus we have Rags Srinivas also joining us to talk about running CloudFoundary with OpenStack.
Topic 1: VMware is still king when it comes to solving today’s enterprise infrastructure pain points and running "classic" enterprise apps. OpenStack outshines itself when it comes to managing large-scale cloud-ready applications and its momentum is undeniable. Each has its role in an enterprise data center and it’s clear one is not going to replace the other in a long time to come. In the meantime, customers will have use cases for both technologies. Mirantis brings us our February session to help you understand how you can get the best of both worlds!!
As usual, we'll provide an open atmosphere for networking and sharing information from ~ 6:30 to 7:00pm with dinner and soft drinks provided by Mirantis.
VMware's vSphere is a solid Enterprise workhorse and has been well received by enterprises for several years. The fact is VMWare's technologies are rock solid and are designed to support high availability for mission-critical classic-design application workloads. In Contrast, OpenStack has sometimes suffered: it s typically characterized as better for hosting distributed applications that provide for their own high availability.
Happily, VMware can solve this problem for OpenStack, along with issues of distributed resource scheduling and other enterprise IT requisites. In this session Mirantis speakers Kamesh Pemmaraju and Matt St. Onge will discuss best practices for integrating vSphere/vCenter with OpenStack, and describe ways of leveraging well-known VMware features (HA, DRS and others) for different kinds of applications encountered in enterprise cloud environments. You ll come away with a solid understanding of how vSphere/vCenter integration works in OpenStack, how native VMware features can be configured to protect the integrity of mission-critical workloads and provide other services OpenStack presently lacks, and see how OpenStack and VMware can cooperate in enterprise clouds to nurture the important applications on which so many businesses still depend.
Topic 2: CloudFoundry on OpenStack: It’s what on the Stack that matters!
The goal for both OpenStack and CloudFoundry foundations is to build open source software and communities. CloudFoundry is intended for a variety of IaaS including vSphere, OpenStack and Amazon Web Services.
Attend this session for a quick technical overview of CloudFoundry and to be able to deploy a variety of apps. on the platform that handle requirements such as HA, Scaling, Logging, Monitoring, Debugging, etc. After attending this session you should be able to walk away with a good understanding of CloudFoundry and how it complements an IaaS like OpenStack.
Speaker Bio: Raghavan "Rags" Srinivas (@ragss) works as an Architect/Developer Evangelist for EMC CODE( http://emcode.github.io ) helping developers build highly scalable and available systems. As an OpenStack advocate and solutions architect at Rackspace he was constantly challenged from low level infrastructure to high level application issues. His general focus area is in distributed systems, with a specialization in Cloud Computing and Big Data.
Rags brings with him over 25 years of hands-on software development and over 15 years of architecture and technology evangelism experience. He has evangelized and influenced the architecture of a number of emerging technology areas. He is also a repeat JavaOne rock star speaker award winner.
Reminders:
• A light dinner and soft drinks will be provided ~ 6:30pm courtesy of Mirantis, and we will kick off the sessions ~ 7:00pm.
• If you are interested in giving a Lightening Talk shoot us a note with a topic or just come to the session ready to speak!
