OpenStack and data bases!

Details

Hi everyone, welcome to 2016!

Mark your calendars for our January meetup on Tues Jan 12th. We will be joined by Tesora as our co-sponsor and we will explore OpenStack and database as a service technologies with project Trove.

OpenStack Trove is the Database-as-a-Service project in OpenStack and provides a simple way to provision and operate a number of different databases in an OpenStack cloud. Trove provides methods to manage these databases throughout their lifecycle and perform operations like backup and restore, configure and operate complex topologies like replication and clustering, and manage the configuration settings of these databases. Trove currently supports relational databases like MySQL (including MariaDB and Percona), PostgreSQL, and Vertica, and NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase, CouchDB, and Redis.

An important aspect of Trove is that it is easy to add support for a new database and in this talk we illustrate how one can add support for a new database in Trove using the example of Apache HBase. In this presentation, we describe the architecture of Trove and the actual code changes required to add support for Apache HBase in Trove and demonstrate a simple Apache HBase database orchestrated by Trove.

• A light dinner and soft drinks will be provided courtesy of Tesora ~ 6:15pm and we will kick off the sessions ~ 7:00pm.
