Riemann workshop

By popular demand - a Riemann workshop

Agenda:

• What Riemann is, what it isn't

• Clojure intro

• Monitoring patterns with Riemann

• Communicating with Riemann

• Application metrics/events

• Deriving and aggregating metrics

• Basic event correlations

• The dashboard

Location: HaBetzefer
Length: 4 hours.

Location kindly provided by Wix.

This is a hands on workshop so bring your laptops. You need to be able to provision cluster so a cloud account is recommended, vagrant/docker will do as well.
Programming experience is necessary. I Strongly recommend going through Kyle's "Clojure from the ground up" before the workshop

To make the learning experience better I'm limiting the capacity to 30 people.

This was a very good introduction to Riemann, and it was presented well.
I think it would have been much better if you sent a list of required installations except an Ubuntu vagrant box.
It would save at least an hour of the workshop, and keep everybody more focused. I was hard to follow you while removing ruby, installing a newer ruby version, installing gems, etc.

Your input is appreciated. for take #2 we will publish an instruction sheet with links and explanations as well as a prepared vagrant box.

I could swear I was in, but now it looks like I'm on the waiting list. Did the venue shrink?

Avishai, It would seem like you were endorsing a Nagios replacement, is that true? :) In that case I really need to attend :)

    • Avishai I.

I wouldn't call it a nagios replacement, it has another function.

I've scheduled another iteration of the Riemann workshop. If you prefer an afternoon session, cancel your RSVP here and RSVP to the other session.
I advise people to consider registering to the seconds session instead of this one - let the brave be cannon-fodder.
