The best Essbase meetup at OOW 2013. 24 September, 7pm, Specchio-Ristorante

  • September 24, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Did you come last year?  You should have.

I don't know what you did on 2 October 2012 (the date of the inaugural Essbase/EPM meetup) at Open World, but I sat at a table surrounded by (and I am not kidding -- the head of EPM product management across from me, the head of Essbase development to my right -- stupid me, I sat at the end of the table so there wasn't anyone to my left) Oracle's senior Essbase and EPM staff.  Maybe you get to rub elbows with these guys on a regular basis but I sure don't.  In a word, it was awesome.

And you can experience this as well -- just come to the meetup.  There's drinks (coffee, even), food, etc.  It's pay your own way but this is not a super pricey place.  I thought the food was great and the company better.

Last year's meetup was relaxed, low key, and a great opportunity to meet people you (or at least I) would never meet in a social setting.  It was my high point of OOW 2012 and I hope that it will be the same for 2013.

Join us, won't you?

Regards,

Cameron Lackpour & Tim Tow

Thank you very much for organizing this meeting. It was great to talk to people with such an Essbase experience.

Enjoyed the evening immensely especially explaining the origins for the Essbase team back in 1990. Got invited to speak at ODTUG KScope 14 in Seattle next June to present the history of OLAP and my vision of the future.
Many thanks for Cameron and Tim for bringing everyone together.

No surprise at all, this was pretty much my all-time favorite social gathering of the year. Tim, Darlene, and as it turned out, Cameron, were wonderful hosts and the opportunity to meet folks with strong common interest I so rarely get to see, and the new folks I met that I wish I had closer contact with, was a wonderful gift. Geno and his staff were superb, as always, and the food was delicious. Sign me up for next year!

I am looking forward to networking with the Essbase elite coming to this event. Hopefully I will get a chance to meet everyone and talk about my latest discovery for Essbase deployment - BiX - now enriching the lives of the very hard working finance users we designed Essbase for in the first place. If you are sad about the phasing out of the original Arbor Essbase Excel Add-in then BiX will bring a smile back to your face.

Dan, D (a/k/a "d.Lo" a/k/a my wife Darlene) is here and will be at the Meetup.. She will probably not talk about cubes but may talk about how much of a 'square' I am.. <BigGrin>.

Today, she is heading to Half Moon Bay and I fully expect she will bring back some real estate brochures to try and convince me that Half Moon Bay is the place in California she will want to move to..

Terrific! Thank you! I think you'd love Half Moon Bay, and it would be beyond wonderful to have you out here (I'm shamelessly thinking of rides in the 210). I'd love to give you guys a little tour of my favorite places in that neighborhood! Lunch at Barbara's Fish Trap on the north end and dinner at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, with Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, and 17 Mile Drive in between. Too much for one day, really, but we could make a weekend of it! Hot tubs and massages on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific at Esalen, for the *real* California experience!

Tim! *Please* bring D again this year! Only no hospital trips this time!

Thomas, you can absolutely bring a team member. We are asking people to RSVP to get an approximate count for the restaurant so they can properly staff the event. I look forward to seeing you and your team member(s) at Specchio.

Is it possible I can bring a team member with me to attend this event even though they are not registered on meetup.com?

I am proud to say that I was part of the group last year. Indeed I sat beside Cameron and across the table from Oracle development leaders who have become valuable guides to me over this past year. Although I have changed companies, from Zanett to NTT Data, I continue my work in the same vein and am committed to the value of this group I look forward to catching up with Tim Tow in person instead of just joint sales calls. And it has been MANY years since I've seen Martin Neuliep who helped mentor me in the late 1990s as a fellow FP&A Train instructor teaching the Essbase Bootcamp!

I will have to make an early showing at a customer reception held by NTT Data starting at 6pm, but I will duck out and grab a cab to Specchio's to join in our fun and valuable meetup again!

    Cheers, Darrell

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
