Welcome To the Oslo Hadoop Big Data Vikings Meetup #5

Both to our wonderful existing members and all the new Big Data Vikings! You are all very welcome!

As always we will present a great introduction to Big Data, show you what its all about, give some exciting real examples, hands on examples building your knowledge, understanding and knowledge.

Our focus in this session is Big Data Infrastructure, Apache Spark along with some great Big Data real world use cases from various industries.

The content is for everyone no matter your skills and you will gain some valuable insights and understanding.

We are also interested to find some core Big Data Vikings, both individuals and companies that are willing to involve themselves with the group, both with time and sponsorship to support and develop the group. Ensuring we build a healthy open community.

3. Big Data Infrastructure and Services - Børge Kristiansen - IBM (20 mins) - In this talk, Børge will introduce some of the Big Data Services available from IBM for all those interested in getting started with a production ready environment. He will also introduce IBM Bluemix.

4. Apache Spark Interactive demo - Willem Hendriks - IBM ( 60 mins) - In this interactive session, Willem will involve the Big Data Vikings with some exciting Spark Scenarios and features. Willem is very knowledgeable and a good communicator happy to share his experiences.

Big Data Use Cases: Solutions and Lessons Learned - Sergey Kovalev - Altoros (60 mins) - In this talk, Sergey will share a real-life experience of building a highly scalable solutions for biotech, healthcare, advertising industries. Attendees will learn interesting architectural specifics, challenges and solutions that involved Apache Hadoop, Apache Hive, Apache Spark, and others.

BIO´s

Børge Kristiansen - Senior technical sales specialist with 7 years of experience in selling enterprise software. Technical lead on many engagements and opportunities working with many of the largest organisations in Norway. Main technical focus within the area of Information Management solutions. Deep knowledge of Data Warehousing, Master Data Management and Advanced Analytics.

Technologist by heart, always wanting to understand the business benefits of technology, and not just technology by itself- With an engaging and winning mindset - Driven by making the impossible possible.

Willem Hendriks is a Big Data Analyst, he studied mathematics at the TU Delft technical University in the Netherlands. Spent some years in a small process improvement company, teaching statistics and analyzing data for various projects. A passion for programming python, peanut butter, and pizza.

Sergey Kovalev is a Solution Architect with extensive experience in High Load Application development, Big Data and NoSQL solutions, Cloud Computing. Now Sergey is mainly specialized in Big Data distributed computing and machine learning. He successfully implements complex Big Data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, and analyzing large sets of data.
