Global Day of Coderetreat

  • December 3, 2011 · 8:30 AM

This event will be from 8:30 to 17:00, with plenty of breaks, food (including breakfast) and retrospectives. See full program at http://coderetreat.com/facilitation.html

Coderetreat is a day-long, intensive practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of 'getting things done', the coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of skill improvement. Practicing the basic principles of modular and object-oriented design, developers can improve their ability to write code that minimizes the cost of change over time.

See http://coderetreat.com for more info.

There will be free food and beer! Johannes will facilitate!

It. Will. Be. Fun!

    Hei, Henrik

PHP is at least ALMOST a normal language. I think he'll be fine.

    Hi Johannes,
Thanks, like many teenagers my son is PHP junkie, so I don't think he can work on the projects independently. But he can pair with me or perhaps what others writing code and talking about it.

and how much does this cost?

    November 30, 2011

  • Johannes Brodwall

    Hi, Vagif

If your son is comfortable reading and writing code in a normal language (like C#), I think it will be valuable both for the group and for him if he comes.

"Basic principles of modular and object-oriented design" - in my experience, if you're a teenager who's been programming for a few years, you're probably already way beyond that level. Bring him and don't worry about it. :)

    Hei Johannes,

I wonder if it will be OK if I come with my 17yo son who has been programming for a couple of years. His qualities are far from those required for this event, but he is very interested watching how "real programmers" do it :-) So he could sometimes pair with me or just join other pairs.
If you think it's OK should he register?

Emily Bache is an excellent coding coach who lives in Göteborg. She did a code retreat in Stockholm recently and blogged about it at http://emilybache.blogspot.com/.... What if we invited her to facilitate this event?
