Canada, I have been in Ottawa since 1989.
Educator, Consultant, Coach and Entrepreneur. Contemplating an autobiography on my career as one of the first four women to ever be hired in the history of Security at the Parliament.
I am French Canadian with native ancestors (American and Canadian) and formerly married to an Irishman. On the American native side, my ancestor Toussaint Charbonneau married a Soshonee Squaw named Sacajeawa. She was the guide to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. She gave birth to Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau. In year 2000, the US Government came out with a coin depicting her and her son. Many books have been published about her.
I have travelled to Egypt, Thailand, Panama, Cuba, Venezuela, Barbados and Mexico where I lived and did business for four months. It was a bit of a culture shock as far as living with locals in sub-standard housing. This was in 2005 and before I was trained in Cultural intelligence. There were no toilet seat in the bathroom, the shower was always quick as the water was not hot. Plenty of cockroaches and my night body lotion was insect repellent. The kitchen story will be for another time. I quickly learned not to make more than Two major appointments in one day. They work on event time vs clock time. Don't count on them bring on time. I had a business appointment at 1:00pm. The gentleman showed up at 4:00pm calling me to say he was at the location. I had left for another appointment by 1:30pm as I was warned they might be a bit late.
My name is Marie Paule nee Charbonneau, Sergeant-Retired from House of Commons. First woman appointed Assistant Deputy Sergeat-at-Arms in Canada, Third in the Commonwealth. First woman Bodyguard to two former Prime Ministers.
