Applied Rationality Series: The Value of Information

We live in a world that's full of information. You can find out almost anything that you want to–at a cost in time, attention, and sometimes money. When is the information worth the price? Is it worth spending ten minutes of research to save $200 on a plane ticket? How about another two hours of research to save another $50?

This talk will discuss ways to estimate how much a particular information is worth to you, and how much you can "pay" to get it.

Perhaps information value is driven by system one thinking. If one applies skeptical approaches and looks for some checks or "so what and who cares" tests perhaps information value would change. But what would be the smart way to be skeptical and yet get results?
