OIW Event: Comic books and Graphic novels as literary art

A panel of experienced comic book artists, graphic novel artists and publishers will share their experiences and advice. 

Joanne Lécuyer lives in Vars, a small rural community outside Ottawa. She is a self-published author of two children"s chapter books (available in English and French). She likes experimenting with different styles of writing. In 2012, she published a short comic book, "The Tales of Anex and Bit", illustrated by her brother who is a graphic artist. She has another comic book story in the works "The Lint People".

Kristopher Waddell – Mirror Comics was born and raised in Ottawa. He is a graduate of Carleton University with a degree in Film Theory and History.  He also attended the film production program at Vancouver Film School.  For a number of years, Kristopher worked in the film/television industry in Ottawa and Vancouver.

Kristopher turned his focus to creator-owned work, writing and independent production.  He now serves as Editor-in-Chief at Mirror Comics, where he enjoys the freedom of independent storytelling, and the opportunity to work with a number of talented artists.

Kristopher"s first comic series released through Mirror Comics is CHALLENGER, a three issue mini-series that first earned popularity through IMAGE/Shadowline"s "Who wants to create a super heroine" Contest. He is anticipating the release of his graphic novel "Big Box Apocalypse" in 2014.

Jack Briglio is a writer living in Ottawa, and is currently writing Dominion Jack for the Canadian superhero adventures anthology series, True Patriot. He made his comics writing debut years ago with Dragonforce #12 and is best known for his Eisner-nominated fantasy adventure series, Growing Up Enchanted. Other credits include Scooby Doo (DC Comics), Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century (DC Comics), and Digger & Friends (IDW Publishing).

Martin Deschatelets – Expired Comics has a background  in illustration, classical animation and 3D animation. Martin worked for Warner Brothers and Imax on 2 Harry Potter films as a 3D Animator and Modeller, Concept artist for animated TV series, Storyboard artist for TV commercials and Illustrator/author of children"s books and comic books.

Martin is Co-Owner at Expired Comics. Based in Ottawa, Expired Comics is an independent comic book and children"s book creator and publisher that publishes in digital formats and in print.
