What does it mean to be embodied?

What does it mean to be embodied?

Are we really spiritual beings having a human experience? Debatable. Who knows what's beyond or even if there is one?

What we do know is that we're here.

In-bodied.

In-fleshed.

But for some reason we've been trying to escape that and all the stored up STUFF that comes up when we stop distracting ourselves.

TV, drugs, shopping, food,... Even spiritual practices can be used in this way, choosing to fly off into la-la-land with meditation, yoga, 'conscious' parties, satsangs, kirtans, etc.

None of these are inherently bad things, and they can sometimes be quite enjoyable.

But are we USING or ABUSING? Are we partaking in a pleasurable activity, or are we escaping from what is? What is the line between relying on something and depending on it?

Could it be that we're rejecting ourselves and the experiences stored in our bodies? All of those feelings that come with being human?

What if we could release them, and then find freedom in knowing that we can face whatever comes our way?

What if we could find the space in our body to contain all of us, leaving nothing out?

What if learning how to sink deeply into our body was our limitless source of inner peace, knowing, empathy, connection, presence, confidence and power?

What would be possible for you if you had the wisdom to choose, and the access to switch, between being in your mind or in your body depending on what best fits each situation?

This series of gatherings will be an ongoing experiential exploration on this topic. Some of the tools we will use include dance, meditation, touch, eyegazing, shamanic journeying, shaking medicine, sounding, and breathwork.

We will discuss what it means to be embodied, ways in which we disconnect, and reasons why we do so. Our meetings will be once a month in NYC, where we will explore the different techniques that are available to us to bring us back into life as it is.

OUR FIRST MEETING
For our first gathering, we will start with Osho's Kundalini Meditation and Latihan, two types of active (moving) meditation that will bring us into our body and are perfect for anyone who has had challenges with sitting meditations.
There will be time for sharing and Q&A.

Monday March 18, 7 - 9 pm
$15 with pre-registration
$25 at the door
