"There is a community of the spirit,
And feel the delight
of walking down a noisy street,
and being the noise.
Drink all your passion.
And be a disgrace."
"One regret dear world, that I am determined not to have when I am lying on my death bed is that I did not kiss you enough!"
These two quotes reflect my intention for the Out The Door (OTD) group: I hope that this group will develop into a community of like-minded friends who want to live life to the fullest by continually connecting, exploring, learning, and growing. We will gather to participate in activities that will expand our friendships and horizons and we'll have a damn good time while we are at it!
Out The Door events are group social outings. We are not a dating or singles group, but rather an adventure club with the emphasis on socializing.
ORGANIZERS: Organizers describe the events to the best of their ability and stick to the description as much as possible, since that is what people signed up for; however, sometimes the plan will change due to uncontrollable circumstances (i.e., trail closures, bad weather). Please read the organizer's description of the event as it explains what to expect for that particular event.
QUESTIONS: Each event is organized independently. If you have a question regarding a particular event, contact the organizer of that event. They are the only ones that can answer specific questions about the event. Be sure to read the entire event description!
PROFILE PHOTOS AND PROFILE NAME:
Event organizers want to know who is attending their event as do the other participants. It is customary that members upload a personal photo that visibly shows who they are. This allows everyone to recognize one another the day of the event. All OTD members are asked to upload a personal photo of themselves and use their real first name on their profile.
ATTENDANCE at our events is at the discretion of the event organizer. The Organizer can turn away any member for ANY reason, either at the beginning of the event or anytime during the event. Organizers may also change a member’s RSVP response for any reason. Event crashers are not welcome. Members that disrespect these policies and it's members are not welcome at our events. Those of you who are consistently reliable, respectful, responsible are VERY WELCOME at our events!
ARRIVE ON TIME: Organizers have no obligation to wait for late comers. Often there is a 5-15 minute meet/greet period before leaving the meeting place, but there is no guarantee so please arrive early. Make sure to arrive earlier than the scheduled start time so that you are well prepared and ready to leave with the group. If you miss an event due to lateness or getting lost, it would be appropriate to e-mail the event organizer with an explanation, particularly since the system will automatically log you as a "NO-SHOW for that event.
For purposes of safety and organization, participants must follow these requirements when attending an event:
1.) Be aware of the hike leader’s pace and don’t stray far from the group. Stop at trail junctions and wait for the organizer to indicate the next trail direction. Our hikes are organized as a group effort and participants are expected to stay with the group rather than go off alone or race ahead of the group.
2.) If you leave the group (for example, to take a bathroom break) let the leader know so you can be accounted for.
3.) If for any reason, you need to leave the hike before it is finished, let the hike leader know and he/she will sign you out of the hike.
HEALTH & CONDITIONING: PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND a hike that is beyond the limits of your health & conditioning. This is not fair to others who expect to enjoy the hike at the level it was described, OR to the Organizer or other members who may have to wait or look for you if you get behind or get lost. Please browse our calendar for upcoming events that match your ability.
GEAR REQUIREMENTS: Come prepared with the right hiking gear, especially boots/shoes, and enough food and water. These needs are different for everyone, so if you are not sure what to bring, contact the organizer of the event or read their "WHAT TO BRING" section in the event description. It is inappropriate to expect other members who are on the event with you to share their food and water if you neglect to bring these necessities.
RSVP INFORMATION: It is NOT APPROPRIATE, NOR ALLOWED to attend an event without a "YES" RSVP. There is often limited space, and attendees that are not on the RSVP list ARE NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN THE EVENT.
WAITLIST: If your are on the “Waitlist” the organizer will change your RSVP to a “YES” when he/she decides space is available. It is not appropriate to show-up hoping to attend an event because your name was on the “Waitlist” but was not added to the “YES” list by the organizer. Attendance at THE WILD WEST events is for members on the YES list only.
NO-SHOWS: THE Meet-up Platform NOW KEEPS TRACK OF “NO-SHOWS.” Your name will automatically be added to this list EACH time you RSVP without showing up. These stats are visible to organizers only. Organizers will potentially change a member's RSVP from a "Yes" to a "No" or downgrade to waiting list status if that member has a history of "NO SHOWS." In fact, the general rule is that 2 or more "no shows" is grounds for removal from the group.
RSVP YES: When you want to join an event, BUT make sure to change your RSVP if your plans change.
RSVP NO: It is not necessary to RSVP "no" if you cannot attend the event.
Indemnification Of Risk:
When you sign up with a “Yes” RSVP for an event, it is assumed that you know the risks involved with that activity and decide to participate at your own risk.
By RSVP’ing “Yes” to an event, you indemnify this group from any problem you should incur because of this risk. Specifically, by requesting membership in Out The Door you agree to the following:
EXPRESSED ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY
I have voluntarily requested to join Out The Door (OTD) group (Whenever used herein, the terms “Out The Door" and "OTD" shall include all of its organizers, co-organizers, assistant organizers, event hosts and agents.)
I understand that during my participation in any OTD event (a.k.a. “Meetup event”), I may be exposed to a variety of hazards and risks, foreseen or unforeseen, which are inherent in each event and cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the event. These inherent risks include, but are not limited to, the dangers of serious personal injury, property damage, and death (“Injuries and Damages”) from exposure to the hazards of travel.
OTD has not tried to contradict or minimize my understanding of these risks. I know that Injuries and Damages can occur by natural causes or activities of other persons, animal, group members, group organizers or third parties, either as a result of negligence or because of other reasons. I understand that risks of such Injuries and Damages are involved in some of OTD events and I understand that I may have to exercise extra care for my own person and for others around me in the face of such hazards. I further understand that at any Meetup event there may not be rescue or medical facilities or expertise necessary to deal with the Injuries and Damages to which I may exposed.
In consideration of my acceptance as a participant on these Meetup events, and the services and amenities to be provided by OTD in connection with the Meetup events, I confirm my understanding that:
I will pay any costs and fees for the Meetup event, and I acknowledge my participation is the discretion of the organizer.
The Meetup event officially begins and ends at the location(s) designated by the Out The Door Group. The Meetup event doesn’t include carpooling, transportation, or transit to and from the Meetup event, and I am personally responsible for all risks associated with this travel.
If I decided to leave early and not to complete the Meetup event as planned, I assume all risks inherent in my decision to leave and waive all liability against the Out The Door group arising from that decision. This Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law.
To the fullest extend allow by law, I agreed to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY OTD, its organizers, assistant organizers, and agents (collectively referred to as “the released parties”) from ANY AND ALL LIABILITY on account of, or in any way resulting from Injuries and Damages, even if caused by negligence of the released parties, in any way connected to this Meetup event. I further agree to HOLD HARMLESS Out The Door and the released parties from any claims, damages, injuries or losses caused by my own negligence while participant on the Meetup event. I understand and intend that this assumption of risk and release is binding upon my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns.
This release of liability includes those who are under my supervision or any friend that I may bring to an event. I assume responsibility for any non-member that I bring/invite to an event.
The provisions of this waiver are severable and if any one or more provisions are determined to be unenforceable, in whole or in part, the remaining provisions and partially enforceable provisions shall be binding and enforceable.
I have read this document in it’s entirely and I freely and voluntarily assume all risks of such Injuries and Damages and notwithstanding such risk, I agree to participate in the Meetup event.
