Hike Placerita Canyon

Details

Meet at 1:15 PM in the parking lot. Leave at 1:30 PM.

Hike is 5 miles round trip with very little elevation gain. Beginners in good shape can do this hike.

Summary: This is a very pleasant easy hike through an oak and sycamore shaded canyon. The hike meanders next to a seasonal stream, with the turn-around point at a lovely 25 foot waterfall in a dark, steep walled box canyon. Although this is a great hike anytime, it is especially pretty in the spring after rain when the hills are green. The nature center at the trailhead is a must-see for kids with lots of great exhibits. Also note that this is the location of the first gold rush in California, seven years before Sutter's Mill.

Trailhead: From Highway 14 (Antelope Valley Freeway) in Newhall, exit on Placerita Canyon Road and turn right (east) two miles to Placerita Canyon State Park. Park in the large lot near the nature center. (Lat:34.37747 Lon:-118.46845)

Can't make it there in time. :( Brenda will lead you. Sorry again. Been a crazy month for me. It is an easy hike to lead since there are no forks.

It is approx 2 hours hike. Make sure you get out of there at sunset--around 5 PM. It closes at sunset.
