Hike to Hollywood Sign & Batcave!

Details

As of 11 AM, it isn't raining in Hollywood. Hike is still on. Hopefully it doesn't start pouring in the meantime. If so, it will be cancelled.

Hike changed back one hour (to 1 PM) due to rain forecast in the morning.

How do you know if hike is cancelled when you live far from Hollywood? We'll use this doppler map. If you see rain over Hollywood, then it is raining--cancelled/postponed. If not, then it is on! http://abc7.com/weather/doppler/interactive/

If it is raining, others can still meet and do hike on their

own.

We'll go on a 6 miles RT hike with 1,000 feet elevation gain hike. This is a moderate hike. No beginners. Bring water, sneakers with good traction. It is an approx 3 1/2 hours hike.

You can share snacks at the top--there are no benches/tables. Can put snacks on blankets/towels--I'll bring one. It is OPTIONAL to bring snacks. Only bring SNACKS, not food since there are NO tables up there. Don't bring anything that requires a plate, spoon, fork. Bring snacks such as trail mix, granola bars, chocolates, peanuts, fruit, etc.. We'll stay up there for approx. 20- 30 minutes.

1st, we'll go to the batcave, where the batcar came out from the Batman TV series. You can leave after this. Then we'll hike to the Hollywood sign.

Rain cancels hike.

The Bronson caves are man-made, and were probably created back around 1900, when the area was a rock quarry. (Some say the caves themselves were created especially for the 1922 version of "Robin Hood" with Douglas Fairbanks.) But whatever their origin, they have since been used in countless movies and TV series. They were seen as the 'Bat Cave' in the classic "Batman" TV series, as well as in "Bonanza," "Star Trek: Voyager," "Fantasy Island," "Little House on the Prairie," "The Lone Ranger," "Gunsmoke" and the "Wild Wild West". Plus feature films such as 2002's "The Scorpion King," "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," "Lost Horizon" and the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

We'll also hike by the "Giving Tree." The tree inspired the author of that book to write it. http://hiddenlosangeles.com/adventure-the-giving-tree/

If someone is really slow, we can't wait for you. :( I don't want to hold up a large group for slow people. So, for anyone who gets left behind, we're going up to a fork and then make a left. We'll walk on a flat fireroad for a while. Once we get to a paved road, we'll go up to the sign.
