White Water Preserve, Huell Style

White Water Preserve, Huell Style

Details

As we continue together on Huell Howser's trail, we follow it to the "Wild Lands Conservancy's "White Water Preserve". Believe me it is a site to behold !
The Glacier fed white water river comes down from White Water Canyon. To the North of the visitor center you can see snow caped Mt San Gorgonio surrounded by green hills and a beautiful blue deep blue sky.

Hopefully we will also have wild flowers as well !

What makes this place so special is that White Water Preserve and the public lands that surround it, are part of a proposed future National Monument and the White Water River is a proposed Wild and Scenic River designation and this place is full of rich history waiting to be discovered !

Also, no other meetup group has ever been here !

Our Guide will be Reserve assistant manager Brandon Keith.

The temperature should be mild. I scouted this February 8 and it was in the low seventies. I'm doing this on a Sunday because there will be no traffic !

When I scouted this the traffic was very light.

Because the people that Huell met are no longer here, this will be a Huell Howser Adventure and this will be done Huell style

THIS IS A NATURE HIKE ! PLEASE COME PREPARED FOR A HIKE !

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR SAFETY AND COMFORT:

BOOTS, NO RUNNING OR TENNIS SHOES, DAY OR FANNY PACK, SNACKS AND 2 QUARTS WATER, SUNSCREEN, CHAP STICK AND DRESS IN LAYERS AND BRING A BASIC FIRST AID KIT.

This will be a slow paced nature hike.

It will be 6 miles round trip with a 600' foot gain. and will take 3 hours at a slow pace.

I hope to be done between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm.

I will have to see how things go.

I may make it a little bit shorter depending on how the group does

It is tucked away in a Canyon four miles north of interstate 10 and 106 miles east of LA. When you see the "Morongo Casino on your left side, you will be 8 miles from the White Water exit. When you pass the junction to the 111 Hwy going to Palm Springs You will now be 2 miles from the White Water exit.

STAY ON INTERSTATE 10 GOING EAST ! There will be a "REST STOP" a quart mile before the White Water exit ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. After YOU PASS THE "REST STOP" ON YOUR RIGHT, THE NEXT EXIT WILL BE FOR WHITE WATER The sign will just say"WHITE WATER".

When you get off you will be heading north over a bridge and the road will snake to the right and start to look immediately for the signs pointing to White Water and White Water Canyon Road on your left side. You now will head north on White Water Canyon road 4 miles and follow it all the way to the end. The road ends at the Visitor Center Parking lot

It takes 2 hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there without traffic

PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET THERE.

From where I live in the Hollywood area, it took me 2 hours and 10 minutes and I made a brief stop.

Look at my profile picture so you can see what I look like before you come.

I'm 6' tall. I drive a tan Toyota Tundra pickup truck with a White camper shell.

Rain on the weekend of the event will cancel it.
