Let's spend the day in the desert!

Details
Originally I was planning on seeing the Antelope Valley poppies, however I do want to bring attention to a place that needs our help.
Saddleback Butte is among the few parcels of recreational land in the desert of the east Antelope Valley. About an hour and a half drive, due east of Lancaster, you can go for an hour hike and get to the top to see miles of nothing in the Antelope Valley.
Unfortunately, Saddleback and nearby Antelope Valley Indian Museum are on the list of state park closures after this summer. It doesn't get a real lot of visitation, but if you want to have the desert experience, its much closer than Joshua Tree. (In fact it was the original Joshua Tree state park). From West/Central LA its about an hour and a half drive. We will reserve 3 hours for the hike, and then an hour or so to wander the grounds of the Antelope Valley Indian Museum near Lake Los Angeles. (No lake there).
This is your chance to hike around Joshua trees, and to bring awareness of the park. The views are fantastic and public access should not be taken for granted. So lets show our support for the other side of Los Angeles county by visiting to parks very close to one another. We'll head over to the museum around 2:30
Bring LOTS of water, a hat, sunscreen, good hiking boots, camera. Entrance for the Antelope Valley Indian museum is $3.00. If people want, we can check out downtown Lancaster.

I was there this weekend to scout out the trial.
