Do you find it difficult sometimes to feel at home on this island as a foreigner? Or maybe you're from here, but you were raised differently than most other Puerto Ricans? Or worse yet, you're bilingual but your thought process is in English (or any other language), and you have to think for a while before you can respond in Spanish with the locals. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could arrive at a party and know that there will be people who understand where you're coming from and be open to your conversations, even if you're still learning how to speak Spanish?
The truth is that many of us who haven't been raised in Puerto Rico, or under the Puerto Rican culture find it hard to hold a conversation with the majority of people on this island. Even if you know Spanish very well, you will soon feel that it's hard to relate to the same interests. The reason for this is that the cultural background of most Puerto Ricans is very different and usually closed to global influence. Topics of interest among most Puerto Ricans are usually limited to the bubble in which they live in (I once had to listen to someone speak for an hour about reggae-ton - I actually felt sorry for her.) But there is hope!
Join us! We will schedule group events where Outlanders like you can Meetup! Whether you are Asian, Mexican, Russian, or even Puerto Rican, as long as you feel like you'd rather have conversations beyond the scope of the local crowd, you're very welcome to join. Make new friends! Find a special someone! Meet other like minded people who can help you with business ideas and actually take you seriously! We will take your suggestions to plan trips and Meetups. Isn't it about time that we got together to share our thoughts? This group is not only intended for bar hopping and getting drunk, but also for trips to wherever you feel like going (Beaches, Caverns, El Yunque, Caja de Muertos, wherever!)... Suggest it, we'll plan it, and we'll go! This island is full of adventure, it's just the people who have been misplaced. So let's find each other! As long as you feel like you're an outsider in a place where everyone else seems soooo different, you're in.
We do have some strict requirements to join this group: You must be able to speak English. This means you must answer all the Introduction Questions IN ENGLISH. You must be over 21, and you should be expressive and courteous when answering the Membership Admittance questions. Admittance Requests with answers that are less than a few words in length will be disregarded.
