Old Town Alexandria Buddhist Teaching & Meditation Group Message Board › Holy Ceremony Has Begun
Silver Spring, MD
Dear Members of our Alexandria Meditation Meetup Group,
This is to notify everyone about the ceremony that is happening at Namdroling Monastery (our mother monastery in southern India). The Kudung Zhugbhul (cremation ceremony) as it is called, has already begun. This is a days-long ceremony to cremate the remains of our beloved spiritual master Pema Norbu Rinpoche, who passed away in March of 2009. His remains have been lying in state at the monastery since his passing.
The ceremony has already begun and is being occasionally web cast live at the main website of Palyul International. CLICK HERE to access the webcast.
The parts of the ceremony that have already been broadcast and recorded are available by clicking on the video list below the video screen on the above website. The cremation itself is scheduled for May 23rd, but we do not know the exact time of that event as the ceremony is accommodating the schedules of the many high lamas and dignitaries in attendance. The time at the monastery is 9.5 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). That is, May 23 begins (i.e. midnight) at 2:30 p.m. today (May 22) EDT. We do not expect the cremation itself to happen before the early morning hours of Monastery time, which would be the early evening of today. However, as stated, we do not know exactly when it will happen.
We (PCD-DC aka Old Town Alexandria Buddhist Meditation Group) will gather tomorrow at 7 p.m. to join in solidarity with our spiritual community and commemorate His Holiness. We will meet at 316 Commerce St. in Alexandria, VA (our usual meditation group venue).

May all beings benefit!
