Kick-Ass Video Content Strategy, Design, and Distribution

What makes a great video experience?

Ever had a client ask, "Can you make me a viral video?” Alas, punching said client in the face would be wrong. Instead of dwelling on the transgression, address the fact that while video can be a real asset, it all starts with developing a sound content strategy.

In this session we’ll take a closer look at how to treat video as a key player in a cast of well-rounded content characters.

Narrative story arcs, consistent content, and media planning? Oh, my!

Join us for our very first co-meetup with the AIGA Arizona crew as we discuss the hero's journey, narrative story arcs, and how it all works as the glue to a holistic content strategy.

Michael Duah, Video Content Strategist and interactive design grad student at ASU, and Andrew Bagley, Director of Emerging Media and Strategy at Sitewire, will share their trade secrets in the video design and strategy space

Expect sound takeaways, a solid buzz, and more culture than you ever thought you could find in the arid Valley of the Sun.

Thanks to AIGA Arizona and Sitewire for sponsoring.

Learned a lot from both presentations. Sort of a left-brain/right-brain pairing and it worked well.

Great presentations last night - thank you Michael and Andrew for sharing your wisdom, and thank you to Rebekah, Libbie, Sarah, and Anna for setting this up every month. So glad that AIGA could co-host this with you - Looking forward to design week.

Yeah, Design Week should be incredibly fun. Did you notice that some people from this very group are on the speaker list? (Rebekah, Michael, Ward, Shaina) Considering you're from AIGA Arizona, I'm guessing you already knew, but still cool right? Congrats guys. http://www.phxdw.com/...

Design Week's going to be pretty great this year - definitely looking forward to our amazing local speakers (and the national ones as well).

Hey, it's James. I just wanted to say it was really nice hanging out with you guys tonight. Thanks for putting it on. Also to those I met for the first time, it was a pleasure meeting you. To those I didn't meet, I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Sarah, did you actually end up making it home before 10, or did you totally end up having to give your fiancé that 50 bucks?

Rebekah, let's definitely do that coffee thing some time. Hit me up whenever, and I'll see when I can fit it in.

Good to see you, James! Send me your email address and we'll get that coffee date set up. :)

Great event and great presentations! Thank you Andrew for sharing the process that you use when making videos at Sitewire. This is the type of sharing that we need more of in Phoenix to push each other to get our A game on and kick butt!

Thank you Michael for taking a left turn and making us think differently about how we approach storytelling. I am gonna start putting the galaxy into my client presentations!

Yes Roger, that galaxy slide would be an incredibly groovy thing to include in future client presentations, but are you also going to include Micheal's awesome hand motions? That's 50% of what make it so badass. :) It's all part of his killer execution that brings it to life.

Sad to say I'm going to have to bow out. I've been battling a migraine all afternoon and, well, I think I've lost the battle :(

Sorry to have missed you, Sara! Hope your head is feeling better.

What great talks last night! Both presenters were very interesting. I loved having the event at Film Bar, it was great to be able to mingle and then go into the theatre for the actual presentation.

Excellent speakers that offered relevant insights into high quality content strategy and branding. Filmbar was also just a nifty spot to hang out and network. Great night!

I am headed to Carly's Bistro, just north of Filmbar, for a pre show dinner. Feel free to join me, or not, its cool.

YUM! Wish I could make it downtown in enough time to join you.

      September 25, 2013

  • Jennifer H.

Thrilled to see so many are attending -- a far cry from when we were just starting out! Wish I still lived in PHX...
I'm also interested in a recording/later date. Thanks for keeping us posted, Anna.

Will do, Jennifer! And we wish you still lived in Phoenix, too! Miss seeing you at the meetup every month.

Do I need to plan to have cash on hand for anything other than something to eat? (Parking?) Excited that it's in the middle of town - will make it much easier for me to attend!

    September 23, 2013

    • Rebekah C.

Hi, Liz! FilmBar has a smallish parking lot, and if you don't snag a spot there, metered parking downtown is free after 5 pm. You should be good to go!

      September 23, 2013

  • Marge B.

So disappointed that I am going to be out of town for this event. Really need this type of training to up my game. Any chance this will be recorded or otherwise made available at a later date?

    September 12, 2013

    • Anna H.

Hi, Marge! Sorry to hear you'll be out of town, but we hope to see you at the next one! As far as availability after the meetup, we'll see what we can do for you and everyone else who may not be able to attend. Stay tuned!

      September 16, 2013

    • Marge B.

Hi Anna - I will indeed stay tuned and keep my fingers crossed that there will be a way to capture the content for post-event viewing.

I'm a new member and live in the north valley, I'm making a request for events to be closer north :) North Phoenix/Glendale or Midtown areas.

How about Gangplank in Chandler as a meeting space. They have access to the building space just north of Gangplank proper. It's larger overall than CO+HOOTS.

Any thoughts on part of town yet?

    September 12, 2013

    • Rebekah C.

Last time, our group was a bit large for the meeting space at CO+HOOTS. Since this is a co-meetup with AIGA, there might be even more people. We're waiting to hear back from one spot in particular that I think everyone will really enjoy. Fingers crossed! Keep you posted!
