What Is Parents Without Partners Inc.?
Parents Without Partners Inc. (PWP) is an international, non-profit, non-sectarian, Educational 501c3 Organization devoted to the interest and welfare of single parents and their children. Single parents come together for mutual support for our children and ourselves. We conduct a program of educational discussions, youth and family activities, designed to aide singles in meeting and socializing with other single parents. Through networking we learn how to cope with the special problems of concern to single parents. Single parents can redefine their sense of identity and gain strength from the knowledge that others have often overcome the situations that they now face.
Who is Eligible To Join Parents Without Partners Inc.?
You are eligible to join PWP if you are single by reason of separation, divorce, death of a spouse or have never been married and you are a parent of one or more living children. Your age, your child’s age or custody arrangements are not a factor for eligibility. The common denominator is that we are all single parents.
What Are The Ages Of Our Members?
Chapter 796 is composed of two age groups. PWP was initially started in the 1950’s by a man and a women in New York City with young children who were looking to get out and do things with other parents of young children. With that mission in mind, our first group continues to be comprised of members under fifty years of age who have children in the 18 and under age group.
As times have changed, a second group has emerged made up of members in the fifty and over age group with children who are grown and on their own. PWP has been a wonderful venue for this group of single parents to experience new support and friendships with others in similar life situations of being divorced, separated or widowed or just single at a later time in their life.
At this time, our group is equally divided (50/50) between younger members and older members. During monthly activities, these two groups meet separately within their own age group and all together as part of larger chapter activities such as the annual family picnic and family Thanksgiving pot luck dinner.
What Area Does Chapter 796 Cover?
Our members join us from all over the Capital District Region including Albany, Argyle, Ballston Lake, Ballston Spa, Burnt Hills, Charlton, Clifton Park, Cohoes, Fort Edward, Gansevoort, Glens Falls, Glenville, Greenfield Center, Lake George, Latham, Malta, Mechanicville, Middle Grove, Niskayuna, Ravena, Rensselaer, Rexford, Salem, Sand Lake, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, Schuylerville, Scotia, Troy, Waterford and Watervliet. With many monthly activities planned in a variety of locations, it is always easy to be a part of the fun and excitement.
What Activities Does Parents Without Partners Provide Monthly?
PWP provides a supportive environment in which to meet other single parents and have an opportunity to go out as a group. For young adult parents, it provides activities you can do with your children as part of the group, as well as the opportunity to be with other adults on a similar path in life. An adult evening out with your PWP friends revitalizes you and enables you to go back to the important task of being a parent with a renewed freshness. The monthly calendar offers many opportunities to get out and have fun. And in PWP you have the opportunity to add functions or events to the monthly calendar that you and/or your child have a special interest in and would like others to join you at.
Enjoy Youth & Family Activities
Each month a variety of functions encourage family time together. Programs include kids crafts, family dinners out at child friendly locations, family bowling, roller skating, trips to sporting events, family movies, museum trips, picnics, holiday parties, pot luck parties and many other fun activities geared to children of all ages. Best of all, PWP’s adult fundraising efforts allow us to subsidize the costs of many children activities which will make it easier for all single families to bring the kids out and have a good time. As a young parent with children this is definitely a plus!
Enjoy Adult Activities
Our adult social programs offer an opportunity for growth and fun times meeting other single parents. The monthly calendar is filled with functions geared just for adults. Join us at our highly popular Amigo Dinner for the best pot luck meal in town or for dinner out at a popular restaurant. Discuss a hot topic with our Discussion Group, attend a dance, and learn ballroom dancing or country line dancing with fellow members. Play a game of golf or a game of cards. Come to a wine and cheese party, a movie or the theater. Walk, hike, kayak or join us for a garden tour together. The list of adult activities is long and varied with lots of fun things all month long. Most importantly once you join PWP you will enjoy these and many other activities with a group of friends instead of being alone.
