RSVP for PADS Meetup: Big Data Challenges in Financial Institutions

Details

Hello PADS Members,

The next PADS meeting is November 6th. Presentations include:

  1. A panel debate on whether the data science community needs an Open Data project to create a repository of accessible data set that can be used for demos, product evaluations, experiments, benchmarking, etc.By way of comparison in the early 90s in the relations data community there was a lack of ability to compare products and the resulting standardization effort led to the Transaction Processing Council, and their TPC-A, TPC-B, TPC-C benchmarks. Currently theres a wave of promising new data science products arriving on the market but no effective means of cross comparing them.

  2. An overview of data science operations at BNY Mellon. This short reparation will overview the data science stack and tools in use, and will also look at the types of data being explored, the expected business values, and operational model for analysis.

  3. The state of the data narrative. This session will look at the history of the data narrative starting with 20th century BI and comparing to modern data science driven data narratives. It will look at data science driven narratives and tooling and stacks that can be used for the preparation.

If you would like to present at any future meeting, please send me a description of your proposed presentation or demonstration. Previous presentations have leaned toward real world applications, personal expertise and innovative approaches to solving data science challenges. The more specific the better.

If you know of a venue in the Palo Alto area that can accommodate 100 to 150 attendees, let me know about that as well.

I'm looking forward to meeting more of you at the next meet-up.
