#1: Amazon Dynamo

  • Aug 8, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Hello and welcome to our first computer science paper reading club - the Paper Cup!

The format of Paper Cup meetings is as follows:

1. You read the selected white paper at home,
2. You come to the meetup in order to discuss the paper,
3. We all vote on the next paper to read,
4. repeat.

We'll be starting off with some of the classics that have changed todays world of computer science.

Required: The paper we'll be reading for this meetup is: "Dynamo: Amazon’s Highly Available Key-value Store" (2007).

Bonus: We've also found the "How to read a Paper" paper quite interesting for a first if you've never previously read a scientific publication, or if you have a minute to spare - it's only 2 pages long! :-)

We'll have food and drinks prepared for you.

Hint: It's recommended to bring a copy of the pdf with you to the meeting for reference.

Suggestion for a paper to discuss, example also applies to SE papers: "False-Positive Psychology: Undisclosed Flexibility in Data Collection and Analysis Allows Presenting Anything as Significant"

Just realised I'm double booked for tomorrow. Really sorry to miss out, will definitely come to the next one. (+1 for more central location!)

Sounds great. Any chance of a more central location?

I also signed up, and then unsigned up because travelling to richmond and then home would be over a 2 hour round trip for me.

I see your points. One of the reasons why Richmond is that we'd love to have something nearer to us than in Central... Having that said, let's first meet a few times and then think about next places. :-)
