Featuring: Forno Oven Pizza Dinner and Tour of the SAIT Culinary Gardens and Apiary!

Hosted by SAIT Green Building Technologies and the Federation of Calgary Communities!

Join your peers in the building, planning, and community design sectors as we identify and apply innovative and creative sustainability solutions to existing neighbourhood challenges!

This event will utilize Community Case Studies and seek to answer the following questions:

· How do we adapt existing communities w/ better transportation, schools, commercial districts, and improve housing diversity?

· How do we integrate diversified land use and safer mobility into existing communities?

· How do we transform existing car-oriented developments into sustainable, human-oriented communities?

Case Study #1: Manchester is currently a low intensity, predominantly light-industrial and historic inner city Calgary district with a population of approximately 500 people. This 500 hectare district, two kilometres from the City Centre, represents one of the most exciting opportunities to realize the transformation of Calgary’s established communities in keeping with the vision of imagineCalgary,

Case Study #2: The community of Fairview including Fairview Industrial is bordered by Macleod Trail on the west, Glenmore Trail on the north, Heritage Drive on the south and 6th Street (with a short portion of the north-south piece of Heritage Drive) on the east. According to City of Calgary statistics, our total population is roughly 3,600 people living in 1540 dwellings (1,200 single detached homes, 340 apartments).

Outcomes: Build new skills, perspectives and relationships across sectors; Identify tangible solutions specific to development challenges in Calgary’s communities; Integrate practical elements of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/cities/) in our process.

Registration: $FREE Community Associations & $35.00 Corporate/Government
