Backpacking - Appalachian Trail - Springer Mountain

We've talked about doing sections of the AT for quite a while. Now it's time to start. We will begin at Springer Mountain (Ga) on Friday morning (Oct. 21) and hike Friday, Sat. and Sunday. Total mileage will be less than 20 miles. We will focus on light weight backpacking.

Following our meeting on 08-18-11 we have firmed some additional details for the trip. We will be leaving on Thurs. October 20th at 6PM and travel to a hiker's hostel located near Woody Gap in GA. We will spend the night in the hostel and begin our hike the following day after breakfast. The hostel offers a shuttle to the top of Springer Mtn. where we begin our hike. From there we'll make our way back toward Woody Gap and head for home on Sunday. Cost of the shuttle and the hostel should be approx $30 a person. Due to limited space on the shuttle we now have to cap the trip at 12 persons. We currently have 7 confirmed and have room for 5 more. We have several others that have expressed interest in going and ask that you confirm with us as soon as possible. We will continue to update the numbers confirmed to keep everyone in the loop regarding availability. Deadline to confirm is 09-15-11.
