The purpose of this group is to foster the development of resilient and sustainable communities in the lower Penobscot Valley region (roughly, the Greater Bangor-Orono area).  Through workshops and collaborative design projects, we aim to cultivate skills and support beneficial relationships among our members and the broader community. We support local projects that bring together ecological design, edible landscaping, and systems thinking in order to support the shift to a more sustainable and just culture. Many of these events are hosted by Terrell House Permaculture Living & Learning Center (PLLC).

Terrell House PLLC seeks to provide an innovative, interdisciplinary hub for university departments, student groups, and community organizations working together to build a more sustainable world through collaborative research and service learning. Food security, appropriate technologies, community revitalization, and ecological restoration are areas of special interest to the project, and numerous opportunities remain for those looking to get involved.

Terrell House PLLC is operated by Resident Stewards via the Maine non-profit Stillwater SHIFT, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Maine’s Office of Sustainability and Facilities Management.  It is the university’s first permaculture demonstration site.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
