An Evening of Incense with Chris Bartlett

With Christmas not long behind us, we open our 2015 season of Perfume Lovers London by looking at some magical ingredients: Frankincense and Myrrh. We are delighted that our Incense Special will be presented by Chris Bartlett of Pell Wall perfumes, who will be taking us through some raw materials, both natural and synthetic, as well as a variety of perfumes that feature incense in them.

On a physical, emotional and esoteric level incense has always had the power to move us deeply - whether through the offering of prayers from early times to the use of frankincense in modern skin-care and massage.

Chris will also be running a perfume making workshop in London on Saturday 31st January for those wanting to make an incense perfume. (see separate listing)

As usual a sample of your choice (where possible) is included in the evening. Refreshments on arrival. This is Perfume Lover's London 3rd Birthday! Expect some cake and fizz!

And finally...

Here's something I wanted to share from my childhood and how I first grew to love incense from my local church: the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela. This is the swinging of the 'Botafumeiro' during mass. In the olden days pilgrims who walked the road to Santiago (El Camino) as a pilgrimage would sleep in the cathedral too, so as well as religious purposes the botafumeiro was also needed to purify the air.
