What is Permaculture? (permanent agriculture)
Bill Mollison (one of the founders of the modern day movement) says "It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way." .... it "benefits life in all of its forms"
The philosophy of permaculture is one of working with rather than against nature. Of "protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless action."
Permaculture is based on Ethics. Cooperation rather than competition.
1. Care for Earth
2. Care for People
3. Return the Surplus
4. All Life has Inherent Worth
Permaculture is a design system that includes all methods of sustainability - water catchment, organic/biodynamic agriculture, animal husbandry, natural building, natural energy etc...
These are basic definitions.... There is a great depth left to be discussed!
