PDNYC #9: Doc Searls and the state of the personal data economy
Details
PDNYC members,
We are thrilled to have added Rick Heitzmann, from FirstMark capital, to the lineup for Mon July 28. See below for full event details!
We’re gearing up with more regular meetings and starting off with a bang – our Keynote on July 28th is renowned author/speaker, and Vendor Relationship Management (VRM) Godfather, Doc Searls.
Doc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Searls) is co-author of The Cluetrain Manifesto and author of The Intention Economy: When Customers Take Charge, a fellow at the Center for Information Technology & Society (CITS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_California,_Santa_Barbara), and an alumnus fellow (2006–2010) of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkman_Center_for_Internet_%26_Society) at Harvard University. He’s also recently been a leading advocate of The Respect Network (http://www.respectnetwork.com), the “World’s First Personal Cloud Network.”
Doc’s keynote will focus on VRM, ideas from The Intention Economy, and how Personal Clouds are helping transform the personal data landscape.
After Doc’s keynote, we’ll be featuring a brief panel on Personal Data Clouds and the state of the Personal Data Economy with:
· Event moderator/MC John C. Havens (http://www.johnchavens.com), author of Hacking H(app)iness, Founder of The H(app)athon Project (http://www.happathon.com), and contributing writer for Mashable and The Guardian.
• Sean Bohan, Strategic Development Principle - Mozilla Content Services
• Doc Searls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Searls), Doc is the godfather of the VRM (Vendor Relationship Management) movement. A fellow at (CITS) UCSB and (Berkman Center) Harvard, Doc works vigorously toward the realization of a better internet infrastructure predicated on more individual control over the digital self.
• Rick Heitzmann (http://firstmarkcap.com/team/rick-heitzmann/), Rick is a founder and Managing Director at FirstMark capital. Rick has overseen many consumer and enterprise investments in the media, adtech, mobile and data sectors. FirstMark's portfolio includes two PDNYC alums, Disconnect and Dashlane... both of whom announced fundings in 2014.
The panel will be followed by Q&A’s from the audience and then on to networking and drinks supplied by the organizers. We look forward to seeing you there, and please pass the word! This is an exciting time in the Personal Data space and it’s a rare opportunity to get to see Doc speak.
Please share it with your networks! Here's a tweet to cut and paste:
