Apache Phoenix for HBase & Hadoop

Apache Phoenix for HBase & Hadoop

Details

Presenter:

Terry Padgett is a Systems Architect with Hortonworks and works directly with clients to architect, design and implement solutions for their Big Data needs using Hadoop and the other components of the Hortonworks Data Platform. Terry has over 20 years of programming experience, largely in the public sector, on projects including very large scale data processing systems, case management systems, emerging R&D proofs of concept, as well as Hadoop-based projects. Terry is a proud alum of Oklahoma State University and George Mason University.

Presentation Overview:

Apache HBase is a key-value store designed to provide rapid query response over a distributed and low-latency datastore. Apache Phoenix opens up access to the HBase data, and extends the abilities of the datastore, by providing a relational database layer over HBase. Tonight we will discuss:- the capabilities of Phoenix such as SQL support, JDBC connectivity, indexing, etc.- present how Phoenix can create and use new HBase tables- present Phoenix using an existing HBase table- discuss a real-world project using Phoenix to index large HBase tables- demonstrate HBase tables being queries with HBase as well as Phoenix- discuss the Phoenix roadmap
