JavaScript Fundamentals mini-workshop

A two-ish hour whirlwind tour to help you get up to speed with JavaScript programming fundamentals. $5 helps guarantee your spot (to make sure those who register come and to cover future meetup expenses), but if money is at all an issue, please message the organizers.

A laptop is a good idea, although you might be able to make it without it. The space is an old church, so there likely won't be tables, so emphasis on the "lap" of laptop. This is our first one of these, so please be understanding!

Agenda

6:00 Arrive, food from SEER Interactive (thanks, SEER!)

6:30 Workshop begins (on the dot!) Material covered:

- Variables and data types

- Functions and scope

- Object literals and the DOM

8:30 Workshop ends

You must be a member of the JavaScript Developers meetup to attend.

If you'd like to volunteer as a teaching assistant and help JavaScript in Philadelphia, sign up here. Do NOT register here, once you're signed up and confirmed via the form, I (Pam) will register you manually.

Big thanks to our sponsor, SEER Interactive, who will be providing space and food!

P.S. The new editor in meetup isn't very link friendly -- signup here to volunteer to help at the workshop: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kznPh3c9EMG45agf3hkLRx1EwRzNQniTewRwhtnY-is/viewform

Wonderful intro to JavaScript. Slides at http://js.grrawr.com/
The venue was neat, but please turn on the PA system; need microphone/speakers.

The talk was definitely a good intro for the majority of the room who didn't seem to be coders or familiar with JavaScript. Sitting in the back did make it a bit difficult to hear and I think that had to do with the microphone not projecting well enough. I also loved that slides were brief and concise. Crowded slides are a pet peeve of mine. Good job Pam.

Had a hard time hearing the presenter but maybe I just have bad hearing? Putting myself in a beginner's shoes I thought the material covered was a little unclear but it made sense as someone who's familiar with JS.

Pam was straight forward and easy to understand. The people at SEER were welcoming and their space beautiful. The code unfortunately was hard to read so high up. I would love to see a to workshop kind of like the PHP workshop put on by GDI in May for people like me who understand fundamentals and want to get their hands dirty. Ill even volunteer to help in some way.

Thank you Pam! This was a very informative workshop. Would love to see you do a mid-level workshop too. A workshop on JavaScript Patterns would be fantastic as well.

Came across this meetup while looking for a company in the philly area that can help us with some web\mobile projects. Don't think I can make the 8/27 meeting, but would love any tips on reputable companies in the area.
