PHOTO WALK : Meandering With Mike K ....... in Fishtown

To Meander : following a winding course: a meandering lane. Proceeding in a convoluted or undirected fashion

Come on out this Saturday morning for the first "meandering with Mike K" street photo walk. I chose a neighborhood that is a perfect match for that term. That place is Fishtown. A place that William Penn did not lay out because many streets are not at right angles like Penn's original Philly grid. Because of the bend in the Delaware River, streets intersect at extreme angles making for a most fascinating walking experience.

We will meet at the wonderfully cozy Fishtown institution, the Rocket Cat Cafe, and get coffee'd upped. A few blocks away we will take in St. Laurentius Church built in 1885 and the oldest Polish church in Philly. This will be the last chance to photograph it as the Archdiocese has condemned the building due to structural issues. It could be demoed in weeks. After that we will explore Palmer cemetery, right in the heart of Fishtown. It is very beautiful with winding paths and history galore, since it predates the Revolution! We will then meander about based on participants interest, there is plenty of unique buildings and equally colorful people on the streets. We will end at the Interstate Drafthouse on Palmer St and have their famous 'Iced Tea in a carton'. They also have great tacos! DIRECTIONS:

If taking the El get off at Berks station and walk a half block on Front to Norris and make a right. Then walk to Frankford Ave. Rocket Cat is on the corner. If driving, that same stretch of Norris is a good bet for parking.

MEETING TIME:

Let's meet Saturday April 4 at 11:30. Allocate a few hours and wear comfortable shoes. Fee is $15 each (FREE for CONTRIBUTORS and BENEFACTORS). This is a guaranteed good time. Come on out and welcome spring in style. Your camera will thank you.
