This group started in January 2008 as a way to meet fellow snowboarders and get out to the mountains more often. We welcome people of all abilities as long as they have a desire to ride a board and have fun.
Email List and Impromptu Trips
There is an email list that any member can send out emails to all other members. Its primary function is to get a group or carpool together for a trip to the mountain in the very near future. Feel free to post if you are heading to the mountain and would like someone else to ride with. This seems to work best when you go with people of the same skill level for local trips. The email list is not moderated so please try to only send out emails relative to the whole group. Make sure to read the instructions on how to respond to just the person who sent the email or the whole group.
I know some people out there are hesitant to invite a stranger to ride with them to the mountain and I don't blame you. This is one of the reasons we have monthly happy hours throughout the city so that members can meet each other in a relaxed social setting. Everyone is super friendly so don't be afraid to come out and have some beers with the group. A donation of $1 will be accepted at the happy hour events to cover administrative costs. Bring enough cash to cover your own food, drinks, tax, and hook up the waitstaff with an extra genorous tip at the happy hours.
I encourage everyone to fill out their member profile and post photos of themselves so that you know whether the 'Joe' on the site is the same Joe that you met at a happy hour or on the mountain. Also, try to be more specific than just your first name for your profile, especially if it's a common name.
Membership and Discounts
Show your support for the Philly Freeriders group by becoming an official member.
We have some exciting benefits and big discounts on area lift tickets for our members this year. Keep an eye on this section for updated info on all the savings.
Pick up your membership card during one of the happy hours or other events for only $15! (It's a steal, most clubs cost $25-$50)
There will be "official" Philly Freeriders trips as well as the impromptu trips and other groups trips posted on the calender. We are aiming at having at least a couple of "official" trips up north this year (Vermont, etc...) and one or more "official" trips out west.
Please be aware that we will post other groups trips so that you are aware of them but we may not be affiliated with them in any way (PhillyTrips, Get Out Meetup, etc.). If it is listed on the calender as an event, it is just so that everyone in the group can see who else is going and coordinate with each other. No need to fill in a rating for these trips.
Tell your friends about the group! If I've missed something in this about section, feel free to edit it.
