Brian is a Sr. Systems Engineer with VMware’s Network and Security Business Unit. He has a strong back round in Datacenter, Private/Hybrid cloud and OpenStack and computing in the Federal Government arena . Brian previously worked for Cisco Systems , Piston Cloud, Dell, and the Department of Defense contractor.

OpenStack Storage and Cinder - An Interactive Discussion

Abstract:

We talk about the different types of storage in OpenStack and the focus on block storage with Cinder. We'll discuss the Cinder reference architecture and then talk about how Cinder integrates with various other storage backends. We'll discuss some of the storage features or lack thereof in Cinder, the current state of the Cinder project. A demonstration will be preformed.

Ed Balduf, Cloud Solutions Architect at SolidFire

Bio:

Ed Balduf is a Cloud Solutions Architect, focusing on OpenStack, Agile Infrastructure and SolidFire solutions. Ed has been working over 20+ years in technology, consulting and sales. Ed is highly technical but has always chosen to work in roles involving interaction with customers and partners as he excels at solving new problems and knowledge sharing. Ed was most recently Sr. Staff Storage Architect with Fusion-io/SanDisk working with Hyperscale customers on scale out storage deployments. Ed lead Fusion-io’s technical efforts around OpenStack.

Ed has extensive history and experience in Fibre Channel, Real-time processing, NAND Flash, Training development and packet routing.

Prior to Fusion-io Mr. Balduf has held positions at NetApp, Copan, McData, Vitesse Semiconductor and Silicon Graphics. Ed has been named Systems Engineer of the year at SanDisk and at Silicon Graphics. Ed has an M.S. in Electrical Computer Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. Ed resides in Boulder, CO. and in his spare time, he likes to downhill ski, mountain and road bike, run and has a large vegetable garden when the weather in Boulder allows.
