Amazon Redshift

Details
Monetate started experimenting with Redshift in December 2012, during its beta release; and have had it driving customer facing features for over half a year. Redshift is one of Amazon’s DB offerings for AWS. Amazon touts Redshift as, “a fast, fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse service.” This talk will cover the operational aspects of running a Redshift cluster, the tooling that we use to work with the cluster, an architectural overview of how Redshift fits into Monetate, and lessons we learned from the experience of running our own cluster.
Jeff Patti works with Monetate as a backend engineer, where he has developed data pipelines involving S3, EMR, Hive, Redshift, and MySQL. Prior to working with Monetate he performed software R&D for Lockheed Martin, where he was working on projects that ranged from social network analysis to robotics.
