Looking at the landscape of databases available, there are a wide assortment of options ranging from the standard RDBMS to the many NoSQL offerings. Each serve a purpose and have specific goals they try to achieve. This presentation will cover one of the lesser known, but extremely powerful NoSQL solutions called Riak. Starting with high level insight into NoSQL as a whole, drilling down to what Riak is and the solutions it is best for, and finishing with a demonstration of its capabilities and usage via client language libraries.

Jeff Kirkell is a Systems Architect specializing in large scale internet based applications. Jeff's career has spanned more than 15 years touching all facets of the Information Technology industry from web development to network operations, database management to entrepreneur. Although new to the NoSQL realm, Jeff has been active in the Riak community and recently presented at O'Reilly Media's OSCON Data conference on Riak. He is an advocate of Open Source and spends a great deal of time researching and learning about new technologies with a goal of being able to design the best systems possible.
