What is the difference between Salsa On1 and Salsa On2 - NY Style?
Salsa On1 breaks on the 1 and 5 beats in the 8 count of music. When dancing On1 you are essentially dancing to the beat of the music or what some refer to as on top of the music.
Salsa On2 breaks on the 2nd and 6th beat in the 8-count frame, which happens to be in rhythm with the clave. Dancing en clave is like dancing inside the music. There you have more freedom for footwork and body movement. The Salsa On2-NY Style was created by Eddie Torres of NYC.
This meetup group is for those who love, want to dance or want to learn how to mambo (Dancing On2). We will organize meet-ups at the most popular venues in Philly, NJ and NY where DJs play some slower-paced mambo music. Although the group is focused on Mambo we do not discriminate against our Salsa On1 family. All are welcomed! So if you think a meetup sounds great and would like to attend, do not hesitate signing up we will teach you the basic steps!
FYI -
Although we refer to Salsa On2 as Mambo, Salsa On2 is actually not Mambo. Traditional Mambo is danced On2 ½. Dancers from the Palladium era danced the true Mambo and it was again according to how Mambo Legends of the time created and played the music. Through the years the two dances have become synonymous and Salsa On2 has become known as Mambo.
**REVIEW**
Isabel is a great and very easy going On2 instructor. The Beginner lesson focuses on the count and footwork. There is little to no partnerwork involved. First timers should feel comfortable taking this lesson. The Intermediate lesson involved shines and partner work- but also very simple easy to do stuff. She also gave us an impromptu Cha Cha lesson! I think we are all either just learning or starting out. Read more
