Details

Hello fellow Phoenix Biomedical Informatics enthusiasts,

Welcome to our inaugural Meetup event for the group. The discussion and presentation will be Next Generation Sequencing Solutions & Hadoop.

Meeting at ASU Sky Song with plenty of FREE parking!

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:15 PM: Networking, food and drinks

6:15 - 6:30 PM: Cloudera Introduction

6:30 - 8:00 PM: Max Dumas presentation with live demonstration

8:00 - 8:15 PM: Q&A session, Raffle for backpack and other swag

Abstract:

Pathology labs generate a tremendous amount of data in terms of diagnostic imaging, blood work lab values, microbiome, and other clinical data depending on the type of morbidity (i.e. cancer, infection). Processing and analyzing that data is critical to determining the next course of action with the patients. In this presentation Max will provide an overview of Apache Spark, an open source data analytics framework that can be used to process all this data to determine customized medical interventions. We will describe how and for what purpose we use various technologies in the Hadoop ecosystem. The key focus in the talk will be to describe how data flows through our pipeline, and how we have built a powerful tool chain, both on top of, and around Hadoop, to suit our bioinformatics needs.

Bio:

Presenter: Maxime C. Dumas - Cloudera
