Experience the thrill of seeing the City of Boston anew in a way you’ve never seen it before: through the eyes of photojournalist and Pulitzer Prize Winner Essdras M. Suarez.
This is our second event with Essdras in Boston, to see the images from the first time, check out our photo album here (https://www.meetup.com/Photography-Events-by-Amy/photos/17182512/), and people's feedback here. (https://www.meetup.com/Photography-Events-by-Amy/events/130017892/)
Essdras’ approach and teaching method on the how and what of documenting a city and its people is strictly hands on where the participants learn to deal with whatever lighting, weather, or any other situation as it might present itself in front of your lens.
There will be some short on-location assignments for participants to work on the ideas taught by Essdras.

Learn from Essdras the meaning of the same mantra he uses when he is doing his job in the streets of Boston or far-flung places around the world: “Keep moving, keep shooting, keep adjusting.”
You will learn to react to what is in front of you and to make the most out of any given situation. “As a photojournalist I don’t have the luxury of doing much post production work on my images. Therefore I have to make it count when things are happening.”
Essdras will teach you how to assess a situation or subject when it matters the most: When things are happening or are right in front of your lens. “There’s a high degree of satisfaction when you successfully capture the essence of a moment or a place just by paying attention to the details.”
The day will start at the Boston Common and Public Gardens seeing morning life as people come out to enjoy their weekend.
From there we will walk through various neighborhoods as time and opportunity dictates to get the best photojournalist opportunities. China Town, Rose Kennedy Greenway, Downtown Crossing, South Station, Trinity Church/Copley Plaza are on our list, each offering a different slice of Boston life.
Lunch will be at one of the many eateries around the Rose Kennedy Greenway or South Station, then we'll finish our day photographing street life back in the Public Gardens area.
Please keep in mind this schedule will remain flexible. Because this is a photojournalism-style photo workshop, flexibility and serendipity are key to its true nature and success.
