In this two-part workshop, Charles will describe the process of using long exposure and multiple-exposure techniques to transform an everyday scene into imaginative visual masterpieces.
Impressionistic Photography: How to Create Painterly Images In-Camera with Charles Needle
DATE: Monday, October 12, 2015
TIME: 9 am to 4 pm (with a 1-hour lunch break, food not included, but a deli is nearby or bring your own)
PLACE: A private studio and garden in Manomet (address will be emailed to those that sign up)

The workshop will begin with a short inspirational slide show, followed by a
lecture covering techniques, such as Long-Exposure Pan/Tilt, "Multiple-
Exposure Monet" (a technique he invented), Multiple-Exposure Rotate &
Zoom, Soft-Glow Montage and Composite Montage.

Charles will also demonstrate how to use a free script in Photoshop to accomplish this same look in post processing, if your camera does not have a built-in multiple exposure feature, or you wish to learn another way of creating painterly images.
Then, for the second half of the day, we will venture outside on the beautiful grounds of Amy Davies' studio where Charles will demonstrate each of these painterly techniques in the field, and you'll have the opportunity to try them out yourself with lots of 1-on-1 help from Charles.
The workshop will include assignments, supportive image evaluations (where we'll digitally project and discuss your images from in the field), classroom demo using the Photoshop Multiple-Exposure script, discussion of which subject(s) work best for these techniques, and a handout for reference after the workshop.

Suggested (but not required) equipment to bring:
Digital camera (SLR, mirrorless, etc. or your iPhone)
Telephoto zoom lens (70-200 or 300mm range works best)
Tripod is handy, we will have extras if you don't have one
A laptop computer with a recent version of Photoshop or Lightroom installed, or you can take notes and follow along.
Thumb drive for sharing images during the optional participation critique session.
