This group aims to connect those interested in photography with workshops by professional photographers from an awesome range of artistic backgrounds.
Whether just beginning and wanting to understand basic technical features - to the more advanced & eager for creative inspiration, join us to discover photography at all levels in a variety of dynamic locations (street walks, studio work, model shoots, panel discussions). Improve your camera skills, meet others with similar interests, and best of all - have the chance to learn from some of the best in photography!
We are very foruntate to start, as one of the best photographers in Tokyo, Alfie Goodrich ( http://blog.alfiegoodrich.com/ ) will lead the group with a series of workshops in beginner & advanced photography topics. Alfie is incredibly passionate about teaching & sharing in his vast knowledge of photography, for those who have worked with him in the past - you know just how amazing learning with him can be.
And as the group grows, we will offer several workshops with different teachers each week & possibly several on weekend days. The best part about these workshops will be the size. To keep each lesson intimate and to give us the chance to have as much time with teaching photographer as possible, each professional workshop will have a group size of less than 12 participants. Some workshops may even stretch over several days if the topic requires. (The only difference in size would be when a teaching photographer has large classroom discussions). Should be a great way to achieve the most with your photography.
If you have a professional photographer in mind that you think would be perfect to offer a workshop to the group, please have them contact us via the meetup page. All teaching photographers in this group must have a portfolio of work, with photography being their profession & main area of employment. Having completed workshops before is not a prerequisite, though they should have a passion to share & interact with group members. They should also have strong background in the area in which they would be interested in offering a workshop, with topic materials readily available for the group.
If you would like us to reach your favorite photographer to see if a workshop is possible in Tokyo, please let us know and I would be more than happy to contact them! If you are just discovering photography in Tokyo for the first time, come join us on photography walks at Night Photography in Tokyo ( http://www.meetup.com/NightPhotography_Tokyo/ ) & Tokyo Street Photography ( http://www.meetup.com/Tokyo-Street-Photography/ ). Both groups are welcome to all levels of photographers, from shooting with small handhelds to those with elaborate light-absorbing mechanical devices, each walk is a mix of skillsets. & a great way to make new friends!
If you would be interested in volunteering to help organize photographers & workshops, please contact us! To keep the group unbiased, 100% of all workshop fees will go directly to the teaching photographer, organizers operate on a volunteer basis. We appreciate all of the help we can get.
If you would to share in a subject that you're deeply familiar with (a particular style of photography or photographer, possibly a gallery tour) and would like to host a free walk in the group, you are more than welcome to do so. Email us.
One last thing, please note that because of expenses incurred in scheduling paid meetups (studio, equipment, personnel), we have a Cancellation Policy on the day of workshops. Our teachers, tutors and guides are professional people. They'll always try 150% to give to you the best of their experience and create a great learning environment. And whilst we always have fun on the events, the teachers take this seriously.... that's how they get to where they are in their field. So, please turn up when you say you are going to. Or at least give us 24hrs warning if you aren't going to be able to make it, so that someone on the waiting list can.
If you would like to cancel within 24 hours of the event, please find another able to take your space (assuming no one is on the waitlist), or there will be a 100% cancellation fee. There is no cancellation fee 48 hours from the event start. Please only RSVP if you are intending to make events, thank you!
