Making Stronger Photographs - A six class winter workshop Series

As photographers we constantly strive for better images, but time and time again we fall short. Yes, we improve over time but it often seems like it is taking forever. A new camera, a new lens, or new post processing software can all give us a burst of inspiration, but that rarely lasts very long and we are once again dissatisfied with our results.   While this is all part of the natural order of things, there is plenty we can do to improve our results and make our images much stronger.

This workshop series of six classes will take you on an adventure, pushing you to try out new techniques and learn new skills that will have you thinking and shooting with greater intent.

Comprising a well balanced mix of instruction, information and practical hands-on shooting spread over a number of weeks this series of classes will ensure that you spend the winter developing your ability to create strong images that directly communicate your intent to the viewer.

Learn how to lead your viewer's eye around the image.

Learn  techniques to help you more effectively envision your shot before you press the shutter.

Understand what to include and what to exclude  to create a strong impression of depth in your image.

Learn techniques to make  the 3D world in front of you appear more realistic in your 2D image.

Understand how color, light, tone and focus can be combined to convey mood.

Classes will be[masked]pm on Fridays   (Nov 29 , Dec 13, Jan 10)

or you can choose to attend instead  on Mondays (Nov 25, Dec 9 and Jan 27)

                          10am -5pm Sundays (Dec 1, Jan 5  Feb 2)

The Friday evenings will be in the Pembroke Studio and the Sunday full day classes will be in the studio and occasionally outdoors (weather permitting).

The group size is limited to just 8 and the cost for the complete series is: $390

A make-up class for anyone who misses a session will be added if necessary.

We finished this course today. I really appreciate Ian's vast knowledge and teaching skills. The images I have been creating during this course definitely are in a different league than my previous work. I hope there will be an opportunity for more advanced learning.

This was my first series of photographic classes with Ian. He is a great teacher, both the experience and the learning was beyond my expectation. Besides the excellent material you will learn, you will come out of these classes with a greater appreciation for the art of photography. I am looking forward to attending many more classes with Ian. Thanks Ian for a job well done.

Fantastic investment in my photographic journey. Love the changes in my eye and finished images. Amazing how I think longer, shoot less and accomplish more. Great to meet and develop friendships with other photo lovers over the 6 class series as well. My favorite class to date.

Another evening of fun and learning with Ian. Ian's passion for photography is matched by his enthusiasm for teaching and sharing his experience. Tonight's first class of this six class series was a great intro and I look forward to incorporating what I learn into making my own images stronger.

Ian is as masterful a teacher as he is a photographer. Bonding easily w/his students, he brings a sense of calm, warmth and simplicity to the subject.
