Whether it is an image that has been taken or one provided for, a photograph is no longer just a moment captured in time or a fragment of a larger picture. It is now recognized as a valuable tool that can be used to provide insight into ones past and bring clarity to an unclear mind. Phototherapy allows one to look within and beyond the borders of an image, recognize a piece of ones self, and connect to a truth that once was. To be able to touch the parts of ourselves that are the most painful can be a crippling experience, but a photograph has an incredible ability to speak symbolically, providing a less threatening way of addressing the fear that lay behind repressed emotions and creative barriers. It gives voice where there is often silence and creates an understanding for the past while building a hope for the future. Together we can be that hope.
