Pilgrimage in all it's diversity, secular and spiritual.

"What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination."
- Zig Ziglar

Pilgrimage is a very personal thing. You could say it's something you do on your own, but there might be some things that you would like to share, the pain and the pleasure perhaps.

It works something like this. You get a stirring inside that says something like, 'I want to pay my respects to something or someone, feel alive, overcome all obstacles in my path, connect with spirit, the natural world, achieve something really worthwhile, life long ambition.' To follow much of what Joseph Campbell wrote when he described the hero's journey.

Well much of that you have to achieve on your own through your own efforts and if you are fully committed to a particular faith or path then maybe it might be best if you stuck with one of the churches or pilgrim holiday packages that are available through existing faith channels. Such as a trip to Oberammergau, or Jerusalem or Hajj.

But if you are open to the whole experience, the multi-cultural experience of meeting and dialogue with many other traditions then you may enjoy this group. This is not a place for fanatacism though, nor of dogma. We would like to remain open, open to all possibilities, open to the experience which may well be universal.

We will participate in an occasional and eclectic mix of events as they pop up on the horizon or as it seems timely to create for ourselves. I hope that members will also volunteer events. Pilgrims are usually motivated as well as attuned to the universe, or at least we like to think we are. Prove me right. Prove to me that there are pilgrims out there willing to share and to organise things. This group will require different levels of participation.

The type of things we will do to try and get the direct experience of doing a pilgrimage will include - Walks, talks and events - Sharing in Taize singing and services - Attending museums and lectures around the theme of Pilgrimage - Country walks where the first part is in meditative silence - Creative and appreciating art in nature - Visiting people, places and concepts that inspire us and talking about them afterward - Going on walks and doing things for peace or charitable causes - Dancing the dance of many different cultures and our own - Listening to other people and our own hearts through meditation - Being aware of what's around us and celebrating life and the universe in all it's glory and diversity and of course talking about it.

Many events will be shared with other groups and with members of the public

Members may be asked occasionally to donate to help defray admin costs.

Suggestions for events will be welcomed.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you at an event.
