Bent Creek/Greenslick Winterizer with Pisgah Area SORBA and REI volunteer workday in Bent Creek Experimental Forest. The service project will work on Greenslick and surrounding trails. Service project work difficulty is moderate, expect a maximum 4 mile round trip hike with tools. Trail work projects will be clearing drains, problem areas and mud puddles. Tools will be provided by PAS. Minimum volunteer age is 18 years old. Please bring water, snacks, work gloves, sun block, potential cold weather gear, and wear closed-toe shoes. Lunch and beverages will be provided after the trail session.

Event Location: Bottom of Greenslick at the end of Laurel Branch Rd (479G)
Directions to meeting location: Enter Bent Creek Experimental Forest from Wesley Branch Rd to Bent Creek Gap Rd. Keep right at the Lake Powhatan campground entrance and continue on gravel road (still Bent Creek Gap Rd / 479). Laurel Branch Rd(479G) is the 3rd gated gravel road on the right. Gate will be open! Continue up gravel road(479G) until you see the staging area. Parking will be along the side of the road.

All volunteers are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with USFS guidelines.
Pisgah Area SORBA has hard-hats, glasses and gloves for your use, though we suggest you bring your own. You can borrow them for the day or purchase on-site for future use. Due to safety regulations, bicycle helmets are not acceptable.
Long pants and non-slip footwear are also required. We suggest you also plan on bringing a day pack with snacks, water and weather gear (rain shell, etc.) Crew Leaders reserve the right to assess each volunteer’s PPE to ensure compliance with land manager agreements.
