Cloud Foundry is a massive, hairy, complex project. It has lots of moving parts that all have to work well together: Elastic Runtime, BOSH, Services, Developer Console, Ops Manager, Buildpacks, and more. It runs on multiple IaaS's: AWS, vSphere, vCHS, and Open Stack. There are open source bits and closed source bits, each needing different levels of visibility into the test effort.

There are roughly 18 teams working across 5 different locations to bring everything all together. The build pipeline isn't so much just a pipeline but an entire plumbing system. So how do we test it all? The answer might surprise you. Spoiler alert: we don't actually have a QA department.

About the speaker:

Elisabeth Hendrickson is the Director of Quality Engineering on Cloud Foundry. For the last decade before joining Pivotal, she ran her own small consulting practice. Elisabeth is the author of Explore It! from Pragmatic Bookshelf, a book on exploratory testing. Someday she hopes to write a book on the care and feeding of feedback cycles.
