Apache Software Foundation is well known for the awesome software projects powering multi-billion dollar industries. But that's not what makes it unique among all the other open source foundations. The real secret sauce is known as the "Apache Way". This is the governance model that has evolved over many years and resulted in hundred of vibrant communities. Not only that but it also managed to gain trust of the corporations looking for the most level playing field when it comes to collaborating on open source technology.
We will talk about mechanics of the community governance and how your project too can benefit from the "Apache Way" to achieve the level of greatness comparable to Apache Hadoop or Tomcat.
Speaker: Roman Shaposhnik is a Director of Open Source at Pivotal Inc. He is a committer on Apache Hadoop, co-creator of Apache Bigtop and contributor to various other Hadoop ecosystem projects. Finally, he is an ASF member and holds a Chair position in Apache Incubator. In his copious free time he is co-authoring "Giraph in action" book and posts to twitter as rhatr. Roman has been involved in Open Source software for more than a decade and has hacked projects ranging from Linux kernel to the flagship multimedia library FFmpeg. He grew up in Sun microsystems. Roman's alma mater is St. Petersburg State University, Russia where he studied to be a mathematician.
