RE: [philosophy-173] introductions

Apologies Jo,

My name is Jeff.  “Snag” was a nickname I was given in my youth and in some circles it still sticks.  But for all intensive purposes I go by Jeff.

I wouldn’t say I’m a professional philosopher at all.  I merely got my undergraduate degree in Philosophy.  In my earlier days I was drawn to Schopenhauer and actually wrote a fairly decent paper on the relationships between Schopenhauer and Thomas Hardy that one of these days I might find and actually put online.  I had it online sometime ago and a google search revealed a couple of links to it back when it was active; but, not anymore.

In my later years I got more drawn to social philosophy.  Specifically racism and white skin privilege.

I’m a single parent and while I am certainly not working on Sundays generally my son is with me and our schedule does stay fairly busy on weekends.

Hello Snag -

(Do you go by "Snag"? There was no signature on the email)

Welcome to Plato's Cave!  We're glad to have a professional philosopher join the group.  We only have one other member with a degree in Philosophy - the group is mostly made up of engineers, mathematicians, and various other professions.  One thing we all have in common is curiousity about everything, and a desire to continously add to our store of knowledge.

I hope Sunday afternoons are convenient for you - we'll start meeting twice a month from now on and meetings generally last from 2-4pm.  If you can't join us, I hoipe you'll feel free to participate via the message boards.

Meanwhile, what sort of topics would you like the group to discuss? Do you have any favorite philosophers?  Not having a formal training in philosophy myself, I rely heavily on group input to decide on the agenda.

I look forward to meeting you - thanks for joining!

Jo B.
Love, Peace, Happiness

Four out of five voices in my head say I'm sane.
